A Podcast For the Sinking City
Over fifty percent of this city is below sea level and possesses a network of 100 pumps to keep the city dry. It is the most complex and complete system of its kind in the entire world. Despite that fact, flooding continues to be a constant problem. Exacerbated by climate change and crumbling infrastructure, we see waters continue to rise even in neighborhoods never before at risk. Clearly, it’s time to update our systems for finding solutions, not just our existing capacity for drainage.
Here at Cicada Radio, we’re in the beginning stages of production for a show called River Runs Backwards that would explore the possible solutions that can be found in green infrastructure. Through interviews with policy makers and builders who implement (or block) green infrastructure and with the citizens who are most affected by its implementation (or lack thereof), we will spread the compelling gospel of living with water to the end that we exact positive change and move the needle on the fight to defend our dwindling coast and save our sinking city.
